Understanding the issue with society lies in their attention. What is stimulating, attracts attention. That is the focus of trending online. Finding answers faster is detrimental to time & focus. Everything we experience is the “Now” of time and that is where we prime our focus of attention. That is allocated in short term memory, content that is refreshed every few seconds. If it is not interesting, you just click away and move onto something that will stimulate your immediate desires.
The content awareness starts with the Search Engine –
Search > click content > attention > Repeat
That becomes a simple habitual tool feeding our need for immediate gratification in our short term memory. Limiting our attention span to things that can stimulate & inform us in the immediate “Here & Now”. But another key component that is habitual to your use of the internet is “Engagement”. Interacting and participating is the process which gives a sense of validation to you the user. Participation allows for control, a primary source to reinforce attention. You may search up content on youtube just to watch something interesting, but you can also comment on it. That gives a sense of freedom of opinion that can validate your existence and reinforce your ideas to the world.
